Child Car Restraint Training
Statistics gathered from Kidsafe have found that 70-80% of children are travelling incorrectly restrained in the car. Children who are incorrectly restrained are up to 7 times more likely to be injured in the event of a crash.
Kidsafe SA provides nationally accredited training for people fitting restraints in a professional capacity either as Child Restraint Installers or for those who transport children as part of their work.
We currently offer a full two-day course, 52862WA Course in Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitting, for people who wish to conduct Type 1 fitting and checking services (professional child restraint fitting services).
We also provide training in the standalone unit CRFPIA301 Provide information and advice on correct child car restraint use (One Day Course) for people fitting restraints in a professional capacity (family day care, foster care, etc.) to ensure they can appropriately select, set‐up, install and adjust restraints for children in their care.

One Day Course (CRFPIA301)
People providing advice on child restraints in a professional capacity require education and training to ensure they can appropriately advise their customers or clients. This accredited training is based on Course Code 52862WA Course in Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitting (Reaccredited 2012)*.
On successful completion of this training you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the standalone unit of competency: CRFPIA301 Provide information and advice on correct child car restraint use.
This training is suitable for any education, health or community professionals required to transport children as part of thier job role.

The one-day accredited course will cover:
- Restraint use and crash statistics
- Types of restraints and accessories
- Legal requirements and Australian Standards
- Best Practice for Child Car restraint use
- Vehicle suitability
- Older and second hand restraints
- Hands-on restraint installation
This course has both written and practical components including hands-on restraint installation.

52862WA Course In Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitting
This accredited training course will provide prospective Type 1 Child Car Restraint fitters with the knowledge and skills to install child restraints and conduct Type 1 fitting and checking services, as well as providing participants with the knowledge and understanding to educate consumers on the importance of appropriate selection and use of child car restraints.
Who should attend?
Anyone currently providing, or intending to provide, child car restraint fitting services, or required as part of their work duties to select, fit or use child restraints and/or provide information on the appropriate selection, use of and fitting of child car restraints.
Course Aim
To provide participants with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be able to deliver Type 1 Child Restraint Fitting and checking services.
Course Information
52862WA Course in Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitting* incorporates two units of competency:
- CRFPIA301 Provide information and advice on correct child car restraint use#
- CRFPRL302 Install child car restraints (Type 1 Fitter)

Entry Requirements
This course requires the satisfactory completion of oral, practical demonstration and written tasks. There are no specific entry requirements for CRFPIA301 Provide information and advice on correct child car restraint use, however a general command of spoken and written English, as well as the ability to write a simple report is required.
Participants in CRFPRL302 Install child car restraints must possess sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to be able to follow fitting instructions and legal requirements; reasonable physical agility sufficient to be able to access anchorage points and fit attachments; visual acuity sufficient to be able to observe signs, wear and tear, and atypical fitting situations; and sufficient mechanical aptitude to be able to utilise hand tools and adjustments.
CRFPIA301 Provide information and advice on correct child car restraint use, can be delivered as a stand-alone unit for those wishing to educate and inform the community about correct child car restraint use but do not wish to be recognised as an Authorised Child Car Restraint Installer (Accredited Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitter) – please contact us for further information.
